What is SLP reads?  This is the one fundraiser students do all year!  No delivering cookie dough, selling wrapping paper, etc.

Kids read and collect donations from their families, friends, neighbors.

All money collected goes directly back to this year’s students to cover cost of field trips, student directories, yearbooks and PTSO sponsored events, such as Family Fun Night, Math Night, and Imagination and Inventors Fair.

This event will be  October 13-October 31st this year at Susan Lindgren.  Please note:  the district calendar has the wrong month, so not starting in September!

Watch for information to come home from your student in late September/early October!

The 2nd annual Susan Lindgren school garden fundraiser will be held on Sunday, September 10th from 4-8pm at Honey and Rye Bakehouse (4501 Excelsior Blvd, SLP).

This is a great event hosted by Honey and Rye with pizzas, drinks and delicious treats to purchase, all proceeds going to our very own school garden.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the garden, we are in the fall season of the inaugural year.  All students participated in planting it in the spring of 2017, and many families and community members have been involved over the summer months with maintenance and harvesting produce.  Extra produce has been either purchased by Honey and Rye to use for their dishes or donated to STEP.

All are welcome!

The first PTSO meeting will be next Tuesday 9/12, from 7-8:30 pm in the Susan Lindgren Media Center.  Astein Osei, our new superintendent, will be present and giving a brief presentation on his thoughts about future directions for SLP schools.  There will also be information about PTSO, updates on upcoming events and Mr Johnson will give his principal’s update.

Free childcare is available during the meeting to all attending.  And, there is NO commitment necessary (i.e., we will not sign you up to chair a committee or even join a committee!).

The ever-popular Walk, bike or roll to school week is back!!  Monday through Friday, show up using human power and get your stickers!

If you bus to school, just walk or run a lap around the field before going to class in the morning!

So easy, so good to move our bodies before the school day starts!

It’s time to get the backpacks out and set the alarms.  As we look forward to a new school year, the kick off is at Meet Your Teacher night.  This will be held on Thursday, August 31st at Susan Lindgren.  K-2 will meet from 5-6 pm, 3-5 grade from 6-7.  The first half will be in your student’s new classroom, with the 2nd half outside for ice cream and tours of the new Susan Lindgren school garden.  Please take time to stop in the Media Center to fill out your student directory information online before you leave.

The St. Louis Park Public Schools Foundation (SLPPSF) provides resources for reading, the arts, math and science, and transitional programs in St. Louis Park’s public schools through donor contributions, which become grants awarded annually to teachers and staff to enhance student learning in these areas. This past year, the SLPPSF granted almost $55,000 in grants directly serving students — more than in any previous year.
This money does not fund core functions of our public schools, like payrolls or capital projects, but rather focuses on providing funding to teachers for innovative projects during the academic or school day that they believe will leverage the core functions and help students excel. Since our first grants in 2004, the SLPPSF has awarded over $435,000 in grants to enhance learning in our schools schools.

Please mark your calendar for the final PTSO meeting of the school year, Thursday May 11th at 7PM in the Media Center at Susan Lindgren. At this meeting we will welcome a special guest – author and motivational speaker, Sean Jensen, to talk about the “Attitude of Gratitude”. We will also hear updates from event chairs, the principals report and have our annual election for new event chairs. Childcare will be provided.
